| PADI Divemaster and Instructor Development Courses (IDC) |
![]() If you've ever dreamt of turning your passion for diving into a career then we can help turn that dream into reality! If you already hold Rescue Diver certification (or equivalent from another training organisation) and would like to take the first step into professional diving then please see below for information of our Divemaster training. For those of you who already have Divemaster status or equivalent please see the link below to our Instructor Development Courses (IDC). These are held twice a year in Tenerife and the examiner comes to us so there is no need for additional travel. If you have any queries regarding either programme just contact us and we will be happy to help. Click here for details of our Instructor Development Courses Divemaster TrainingDuring the PADI Divemaster course qualified Rescue Divers will learn the knowledge and skills necessary to make the transition from a recreational diver to the first professional membership level. Instructor level academic knowledge will be developed and tested. Confined Water Training includes perfecting all standard open water skills which are improved to demonstration quality, rescue skills, equipment exchange (problem solving) and watermanship and stamina are evaluated. Dives typically include: deep, wreck, drift, reef, navigation, underwater mapping, and dive leader exercises which will develop the candidates' skills in dive planning, leadership and proper response to common underwater problems. Functioning as an instructional assistant is also covered in the pool and the ocean. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is certified as a PADI Divemaster and qualifies for attendance to PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) - leading to eventual certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. We offer two versions of this course; you can choose between intensive training charged at a daily rate of 95 Euros and which takes between 8 and 12 days to complete, or an internship. Divemaster InternshipsDivemaster internships are run between July and October. The course is free, although you are required to purchase study materials and expected to have your own dive equipment. You will be required to work for 35 days as a Divemaster intern on top of the time that it takes to complete your study and skills development (around 10 days) so plan to be here for about 8 weeks. This type of course has the added benefit of gaining first hand experience of working in a busy dive centre as well as boat handling and oxygen administration. We strongly advise that you study the manual and encyclopedia and work through the exercises in the diving knowledge workbook before commencing the course (see ‘Recommended home study’ below). This will give you a good understanding of what is expected of you as a Divemaster and facilitate your progress once the course is underway. When you start the course you will be allocated an instructor who will act as your mentor for the duration of your training. Upon successful completion of the Divemaster course you will be required to pay an annual subscription to PADI currently costing 87€ (not included in the price). Once qualified it is beneficial for you to go straight on and take your instructors course as much of the Divemaster theory you will have learnt is the same for the Instructor exam. Of course you will need the pre-requisite number of dives in order to achieve this: 60+ to qualify as DM and 100+ for the instructor. Please ask us for more details of our next instructors’ exam.
